  • Member of the Australasian Association Of Supervision (AAOS)
  • Chaplaincy Australia

Her professional journey has taken her through a variety of roles, beginning in early childhood education and continuing through primary and secondary education, Defence school mentoring, student wellbeing, chaplaincy and Scripture teaching. These experiences have given Penny a broad understanding of the many different environments, pressures and relationships that shape people in their professional roles.

A breadth of experience

Penny has worked alongside children, young people, families, educators, volunteers, chaplains and community members, supporting people through seasons of change, challenge, growth and transition.

Her experience includes:

  • Early childhood and primary education
  • Defence school mentoring and supporting military families
  • Primary and secondary school chaplaincy
  • Scripture teaching across primary and high school settings
  • Student and community wellbeing
  • Pastoral care and mentoring
  • Supporting volunteers and ministry teams
  • Cross-cultural ministry and mission
  • Community development and family support
  • Working alongside organisations supporting children and families in Australia and the Philippines.

Penny has also been involved in cross-cultural experiences in Vanuatu, part of a team with Scripture Union Australia, accompanying young people as they explored faith, culture, service and transition into their next season of life.

How could I look at this from a different perspective?

Through her connection with Compassion Australia, she has visited programmes in the Philippines, spending time with children and families and supporting local communities through encouragement, relationship and faith-based service.

These experiences have helped Penny develop an appreciation for the importance of culture, context, relationships and the stories people carry with them.

Faith that shapes, rather than imposes

Penny is a committed Christian and her faith is an important part of who she is and how she approaches her work.

Her faith informs her belief that every person has inherent worth, a story worth hearing and the capacity for growth. She seeks to offer supervision that is welcoming, respectful and professionally grounded, while recognising that each client brings their own beliefs, values and worldview.

For those working within a Christian or faith-based context, Penny can also provide space for theological reflection, exploring how faith, calling, values and professional practice intersect.

What makes Penny’s approach different?

Penny brings together professional supervision training with real-world experience across education, wellbeing, chaplaincy, ministry and community settings.

She understands what it is like to work in roles where you are continually giving to others: listening, supporting, teaching, leading, caring and carrying responsibility.

Her supervision approach is:

Warm
Creating a space where you can be yourself without fear of judgement.
Relational
Recognising that good supervision is built on trust and genuine connection.
Reflective
Helping you slow down and look beneath the surface of what is happening.
Curious
Asking thoughtful questions rather than assuming she has all the answers.
Grounded
Bringing professional knowledge, ethical awareness and practical experience to the conversation.
Holistic
Considering the person, the role and the context in which you work.

Penny’s aim is not to tell you what to do. It is to create a space where you can think deeply, see differently, recognise what is happening within you and around you, and make thoughtful choices about how you move forward.

Soul • Role • Context

At Sovereign Valley Supervision, Penny draws on the Soul, Role and Context of professional life.

Soul
Who are you? What matters to you? What gives you purpose and keeps you connected to your “why”?
Role
What are you being asked to do? What responsibilities, boundaries, ethics and expectations shape your work?
Context
What is happening around you? How are your workplace, relationships, culture and circumstances influencing your experience?

Because sometimes what we need is not another answer.

Sometimes we need a safe place to stop, breathe, reflect and see what is really happening.

That is the refining space Penny seeks to provide.

What might I take forward from this experience?
